“It’s impossible to sum up a man’s life in the space of a paragraph, especially one with this many twists and turns, but I’m going to try: Ahmad dropped his platinum single "Back In The Day" while still in high school, struggled to release a sophomore album, left hip-hop and formed the “hiprocksoul” group 4th Avenue Jones and released "Stereo: Evolution of Hiprocksoul" got signed by Interscope, got dropped by Interscope, quit music, enrolled in Long Beach Community College (LBCC), became the first student in LBCC history to transfer to Stanford, graduated from Stanford with a sociology degree, decided to go back to hip-hop, formed his own music company WeCLAP, and now has dropped his sophomore album The Death of Me, a mere 16 years after his first and only album as a rapper. Wait, I’m not done yet. The story gets even more remarkable. I know the more jaded amongst us, and I would usually include myself in that group, will read about a “one-hit wonder” rapper coming back after more than a decade long hiatus and conjure images of a past his prime boxer stumbling back into the ring for one more shot at glory (and a paycheck), and I hate to disappoint my fellow pessimists, but actually The Death of Me, in a word, dope. Ahmad’s rhyme skills are as sharp as ever, and perhaps more importantly his time with 4th Avenue Jones has allowed him to develop a style completely and absolutely his own. Ironically, The Death of Me is the sound of an artist more alive than ever. In his words, Ahmad just went back to what he does best - rap… The Death of Me is an album that could have only come from one man; one fearlessly original man… I can’t believe there’s another rapper in hip-hop history that has gone so long between dope albums, which makes this more than an album, it makes it a living piece of hip-hop history. Some days we all wish we were a kid again, but thank God there’s still someone making grown man rap. www.twitter.com/AHMADweclap

Ahmad Ali Lewis, best known for his seminal 1990's hit "Back in The Day" is not your typical story of hip-hop success. Raised in South Central Los Angeles, Ahmad secured his first recording contract while still a senior in high school, and promptly earned a platinum plaque and a Top 40 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with the nostalgic childhood anthem "Back In The Day."

Ahmad later formed the hip-hop fusion band 4th Avenue Jones, which garnered a cult following on the West Coast and toured extensively in Europe. Ahmad declares, "My band allowed me room to experiment as a writer and as an emcee; I'm grateful."

Fast-forward 10 years, and after a brief hiatus from rap to focus on academia, Ahmad graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Sociology. Says Ahmad, "I wanted to know what I should have known." Ahmad was accepted to Stanford after graduating valedictorian from Long Beach City College and receiving the Jack Kent Cooke Sponsorship, the largest private scholarship for two-year college transfer students in the country. His transition from rapper to scholar didn't go unnoticed; his story was featured in XXL magazine, and on the front-page of the Los Angeles Times.

An accomplished songwriter, Ahmad penned the soul ballad "Mistreating Me" on Leela James' debut LP A Change Is Gonna Come. "Back in the Day" has been interpolated by Platinum selling artists such as The Dream & Mariah Carey on "Candy Bling" and by Travie McCoy on "Akidagain," a song featured on his new solo album Lazarus.

Since graduating in June, Ahmad has been readying his long-anticipated sophomore solo album, The Death of Me, featuring guest appearances by Crooked I of the Shady Records group Slaughterhouse, and West Coast icons Living Legends.

The Death of Me is available for purchase at www.WECLAP.com and will be the first project for Ahmad and wife-to-be Trinity's music company WeCLAP (We Change Lives, Attitudes & Perceptions).
